I'm back from vacation Wednesday morning with Entertainment News every hour, Reel To Reel Movie Trivia and more. Wednesday morning on my show, I'll give away tickets and Wednesday night I will introduce the Paul McCartney and Wings Rockshow film from the Wings Over America Tour at the Silver City in Ancaster at 7:15. I'll also be giving away some prizes on site. Hope to see you there! Here's an almost forgotten hit from Paul McCartney and Wings from 1978. It was a huge hit in Britain and a notable hit in Canada. The song was written by McCartney and Wings member Denny Laine as a tribute to the place in Scotland where Paul had a home and recording studio. This hit featured bagpipes from the local Campbelltown Pipe Band:
This Friday, The Great Gatsby (set in 1922, the year CKOC was born) starring Leonardo DiCaprio is going to give Iron Man 3 a run for its money. The latest version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's story is expected to be one of the summer's biggest box office draws. Can you believe this is the 5th film version? 1974's The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow was the previous most popular, but the first version was released in 1926, just one year after the book was published! There was also a 1949 version with Alan Ladd and a made-for-TV version in 2000 starring Mira Sirvino and Toby Stephens. Let's go way back and watch the rare trailer of the original with a facsinating glimpse of life in the roaring 20's:
CKOC will be broadcasting LIVE all day for McHappy Day Wednesday from 6am to 6pm at the McDonald's at the corner of Queenston Road and Nash in Hamilton. Please drop by and say hello, I'll be there from 6am to 9am and in the morning, $1 from every McCafe beverage you buy will be donated to Ronald McDonald Houses and other local children's charities across Canada. Also, be there just after 7:30 to play Reel To Reel Movie Trivia with me (contestants must be on site to win) and you could instantly win a BIG Yellow Bag (these things are Huge!) of garden black soil which will be dropped off near your lawn or garden. Looking forward to seeing you Wednesday morning!
Remember the Hilarious House Of Frightenstein on TV during the 70's? It was produced at CHCH TV in Hamilton and starred Billy Van in most roles with Vincent Price as a semi-regular and Mitch Markowitz as Superhippie. Many years later Mitch is back with his captivating voice as a communication coach in the horror film 'The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh' and will be joining me on the Morning Show shortly after 8:30 Tuesday morning. The film is showing at more than 2 dozen theatres across Canada this Thursday night May 9. Along with Hamilton's Silver City, it will be showing at several Toronto area locations including the Cineplex Odeon Yonge and Dundas Square Cinemas with a Q & A afterwards with Mitch and writer and Director Rodrigo Gudino. Here's the trailer if you dare:
Shortly after 8am Monday morning, Ian Thomas will be joining me on the CKOC Morning Show to announce the Grand Prize Winner in the Ultimate House Party Contest. Some lucky CKOC listener will win a fully catered house party with up to 40 of their guests with Ian Thomas performing! Join us Monday morning for the fun announcement! Here's one of Ian's classic hits...Coming Home...and perhaps he will be coming to YOUR home:
We're in a nice long stretch of sunny days right through the weekend! It sure feels good, doesn't it? Can you think of many songs with 'Sun' in the title? There's so many like 'Sunny Days' by Lighthouse, 'Here Comes The Sun' by the Beatles, 'Sunny' by Bobby Hebb and numourous others. Here's an almost forgotten one from 1966 called 'Sunny Afternoon' by the Kinks featuring their unique sounding lead singer and songwriter, Ray Davies with a rather humourous twist:
Thursday is the 46th anniversary of the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup! On May 2 1967 they defeated the Montreal Canadiens in the 6th game to win it all. We were also celebrating our Centennial year with EXPO 67 in Montreal. Back then Lester B. Pearson was our Prime Minister and the President of the United States was Lyndon B. Johnson. Twiggy was the world's top model and 'hot' fashions included mini-skirts, fishnet stockings, go go boots, paisley shirts and wide striped bell bottoms. The number hit on the charts on the day the Leafs won the Stanley Cup was this month long number one...Somethin' Stupid by Nancy & Frank Sinatra. Remember those days?:
Here's a great lost 45 by the Bees Gees featuring a home video from their childhood days horsing around and being typical kids. Big brother Barry sings lead on this hit from the Spring of '69 as we kick off the month of May on Wednesday. Sadly it was on May 20th of last year that we lost Robin Gibb. Here's the FIRST OF MAY:
