This set combines three of
Dwight Yoakam's classic late-'80s albums,
Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., 1987’s
Hillbilly Deluxe, and 1989’s
Just Lookin’ for a Hit, into a single package. Since
Just Lookin’ for a Hit was in itself a sort of greatest-hits collection, one gets duplicate versions of several songs here, including “Honky Tonk Man,” “Guitars, Cadillacs,” “Little Ways,” and “Little Sister,” which is a minor irritation, but the tracks on these albums form the heart and soul of
Yoakam's impressive and refreshing brand of new country traditionalism, making this a nice starter kit to a one-of-a-kind artist.
