A great sampler of jazz flutists, featuring classic cuts like
Herbie Mann's "Memphis Underground,"
Yusef Lateef's "Nubian Lady" and
Charles Lloyd's "Sombrero Sam." The format is six artists with two cuts each, culled from their recordings for Atlantic in the '60s and early '70s. Except for the final track, a rambling piece by Lloyd, the music is consistently fine and provides a nice introduction to the flute work of each of the featured performers.
