Let Me Sing You a Song collects Vernon Oxford's RCA Victor recordings from the '60s. Oxford's traditional country approach never really caught on in the United States, but he became a star in the U.K. due to the copious amount of touring he did there. Several of these tracks were written by songwriter and friend Harlan Howard. It was Howard who brought Oxford to RCA and continuously gave him songs, hoping for a hit. This 28-song compilation includes such Howard-penned numbers as "Woman, Let Me Sing You a Song," "Goin' Home" (two versions), "Nashville Women," "The Old Folks Home," and "That's the Way I Talk." This sampler of Vernon Oxford will satisfy the curious, but aficionados should plunge into the massive five-CD set Keeper of the Flame on Bear Family.
