Canadian Explosion and The Stampeders in concert
Thursday night, Alyson and I saw a great musical at Stage West in Mississisauga called 'Canadian Explosion'. We sat with the co-writer of the production, Nevin Grant, -CKOC's longtime Music and Program Director until his retirement a few years ago. Also in attendance were CKOC's John Novak, Rock 'N Ray Michaels and Michelle Quinn. This musical spanned the 50's through present day with great Canadian music showcased throughout in a fast-paced, slick production with an excellent cast of singers and musicians. It's a must-see for fans of the music performed by Canadian music artists. Also in attendance were 60's Canadian Idol Bobby Curtola (Fortune Teller, 3 Rows Over) and Rich Dodson of the Stampeders. Both Canadian music legends were very friendly. I spoke with Rich before the show and I asked him how it felt to have his song 'Sweet City Woman' (he wrote and sang lead on it) featured in the Adam Sandler film 'Little Nicky' and he replied "I didn't mind, - they paid me $30,000. Wow! Of course The Stampeders had many hits including 'Carry Me', 'Oh My Lady', 'Devil You', 'Minstrel Gypsy', 'Hit The Road Jack' and others. All 3 original members will be touring this spring and summer. CKOC will be giving away tickets to a show nearby. Keep listening for details. Here's original footage of one of their concerts from the year of 'Sweet City Woman' . Enjoy!
