Ancaster's largest annual indoor event, Lobsterfest, is set for May 24 this year and its time to start getting your group together and making your plans to have a great time. "We have had tremendous success with this event and look forward to bringing our community together again this year and entertaining 1,850 of our friends" said Paul Gibel, chair of the Ancaster Knights of Columbus organizing committee.
There is always lots to do at Lobsterfest. People come every year for the freshly steamed lobster cooked on site or for the steaks which are barbequed just the way you like, but it is after dinner that things really get going. Once again the dance floor on the arena pad will be packed as it is transformed into the largest video dance party in town. Popular local band Reflexion is back to entertain everyone in the gym and Second Stage is set to rock the patio area.
In addition you can try your hand at the casino, or mini-putt or try to win the best decorated table contest. Bragging rights and having fun are what decorating the tables are all about, as the prize is a $ 500 donation to the charity of your choice and your group's name on the trophy. The judges always have a difficult time deciding from the many creative entries.
Dinner is served from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the dancing and entertainment end at 1:00.
The Knights 160 plus volunteers will be available to help you with everything from getting seated, as all tables are pre-assigned, cooking the almost 4,500 pounds of lobster and over 600 steaks, serving you and making sure you have a good time.
Lobsterfest usually raises over $ 40,000 which is donated by the Knights of Columbus to various charities with an emphasis on those in the most need or used to support local activities. All of the proceeds are given away as the Knights do not have any overhead. They have also become very good at being able to assess which charities are reputable and operating efficiently so the effects of the donations can be maximized.
