Chinese win men's three-meter synchro at Diving Grand Prix

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida - The Chinese didn't bring their top team to Fort Lauderdale, but the world's best diving nation has so much depth that it didn't really matter.

Luo Yutong and Xinhau Zhang of China won the three-meter synchronized event at the USA Diving Grand Prix, surging to an early lead on the second of six dives. They finished with a total of 441.39 points.

Chris Colwill and Jevon Tarantino of the United States claimed the runner-up spot with 416.37, while Ukraine's Anton Zakharov and Dmytro Lysenko were third at 409.62.

Reuben Ross of Regina and Eric Sehn of Edmonton finished fifth with 396.39.

"It went well for us," said Ross. "Our synchro was remarkably good considering we didn't have all that much practice together heading in."

In the women's competition, Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., finished second in her semifinal group to qualify for the 10-metre platform final.

She will swim against Laura Wilkinson of the United States, China's Hao Wang, Tatiana Ortiz of Mexico, Mai Nakagawa of Japan and Tonia Crouch of Britain.
